Student Life Award (150$)

We are looking to reward students who made an impact by getting involved in student life and in their community whether that is through participating in event volunteering, fundraising events, office volunteering, activist initiatives, etc. There is no minimum volunteer hours needed as we are encouraging all students to participate as much as possible! So it’s not too late to start volunteering! 


To apply for this award, you can send a cover letter (350-500 words) to [email protected] explaining your involvement in your community, your experience while volunteering, why you believe you should receive the award and end it with a good joke!

Come-Up Award (250$)

5 Awards Available

We are looking to reward students who have demonstrated unwavering effort towards improving their academic record. Although proof of volunteering could increase favorability, it is not a requirement to be eligible for this award as we simply want to reward and encourage our students in their educational journey! 


To apply for this award, you can send a cover letter (600-800 words) to [email protected] explaining your academic journey, your academic goals, your accomplishments, why you believe you should receive the award and end it with a good joke!

Dedication Award (250$)

7 Awards Available

We are looking to reward students who have demonstrated constant effort towards maintaining a strong academic record. Although proof of volunteering could increase favorability, it is not a requirement to be eligible for this award as we simply want to honor and encourage our students in their educational journey! 

To apply for this award, you can send a cover letter (500-600 words) to [email protected] explaining your academic journey, your academic goals, your accomplishments, your motivation, why you believe you should receive the award and end it with a good joke! 

Peace Award (750$)

2 Awards Available

We are looking to reward students who played a pivotal part in a project that significantly impacted the community such as student led groups or independent projects. There is no minimum volunteer hours needed as we are encouraging all students to participate as much as possible! 


To apply for this award, you can send a cover letter (700-1000 words) to [email protected] explaining your involvement in your community, your goals, your accomplishments, why you believe you should receive the award and end it with a good joke!

DSU created the Student Awards to encourage all students to get involved in campus life, reward students for their academic accomplishments and provide monetary support to exceptional students.

*Note: The quality of wit and humor will not be taken into consideration 😉 

Things to include in your cover letter are the type of involvement, your experience when volunteering, why you deserve the award and a good joke!


Eligibility and Application

The DSU Awards are open to any full or part-time Dawson College student, with the exception of a student who is a DSU Student Councillor or Executive Officer at the time of application.

Fall Semester Awards:

This acknowledges the achievements accomplished in the Fall semester which runs from August to December. Applications are accepted between January 1 to March 31 inclusively. Award recipients are announced in April/May.

Winter Semester Awards:

This acknowledges the achievements accomplished in the Winter semester which runs from January to May. Applications are accepted between July 1 to September 30 inclusively. Award recipients are announced in October/November.

All applications, along with all required documentation/information, must be submitted by the application deadline.
