Student Council
 

Term: 1 June 2026 - 31 May 2027

 

The Student Council is the legal Board of Directors of the Dawson Student Union. Its role is to supervise the management and administer the business and affairs of the DSU. It offers opinions and advice to the Executive Officers on issues that concern students. The Student Council is composed of 22 voting members: 16 Student Councillors from the four Academic Sectors, 2 First-Year Student Councillors, as well as the DSU President, VP Finance, VP Internal Affairs, and the VP Academic Affairs & Advocacy.

The Student Council also includes 7 ex officio non-voting members: 5 Executive Officers, the Chair (non-DSU member), and the Administrative Director who is the Corporate Secretary of the Board (non-DSU Member). The Student Council may appoint 2 non-voting Advisors who are also non-DSU Members.

 

Student Councillors and Executive Officers are elected every Winter semester by the DSU Members (Dawson College students) to serve a one-year term that typically runs from 1 June following their election to 31 May of the next year. The Student Councillor seats are distributed proportionally to the number of students in each of the Academic Sectors. The First-Year Councillors may come from any Academic Sector and are elected in the Fall semester of the current term.
