  • Special Project Funding | Dawson Student Union

    Special Project Funding (SPF) Each year, the Dawson Student Union commits a portion of its budget to fund student-led projects, events or initiatives. The goal of Special Project Funding is to help students realize projects that impact the community or advance the experience of Dawson College students. The allocation of the fund is made on a rolling basis during the Fall and Winter semesters. Please note that you are encouraged to apply as early as possible when your project is ready. Usually, applications are reviewed within 7 days after submission. REQUIREMENTS: Be a Dawson College student May not solely be used for fundraising Must target the Dawson community or community at large directly Have duly completed the application process APPLICATION PROCESS: Complete the proposal template Complete the budget template Send the proposal and budget templates to the email: SPF@dawsonstudentunion.com .     CULTURE & RELIGION CLUBS Official Club Status DAWSON CHINESE CULTURE CLUB (DCCC) The primary goal of the Dawson Chinese Culture Club is to promote cultural exchange and mutual understanding. It will provide an opportunity for all current students to gain a deeper understanding of Chinese culture. We will also build on traditional Chinese festivals and traditional cultural customs, and create a kind, friendly and warm "home" for all Dawson students. The club welcomes responsible, enthusiastic and caring students to join us and spread Chinese culture at dawson by showing a variety of talents, leaving the deepest mark in a limited pre-university career. The club emphasizes diversity and inclusion, and encourages students from different cultural backgrounds to participate. Official Club Status DAWSON CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP (DCF) Dawson Christian Fellowship aims to be a group that creates a space for people of all different faith backgrounds to ask questions about Christianity and Jesus, to belong in community, and to experience spiritual growth. We come alongside Christian students as they learn what it means follow Jesus in the way they love and serve their peers, their school, and the world.     DSU Awards Looking for meaningful ways to achieve its mission to connect, support and inspire , the Dawson Student Union (DSU) launched the DSU awards in Fall 2021. These awards were created to recognize and encourage students (DSU Members) - both full-time and part-time - to engage more deeply in their academic journey and overall Dawson College experience. The DSU Awards are presented each Fall and Winter semester, and highlight student achievements across six unique categories . Whether through leadership, creativity, resilience, volunteering, or academic excellence, these awards celebrate the diversity of ways DSU Members contribute to campus life and the broader community.     Student Council Term: 1 June 2025 - 31 May 2026 The Student Council is the legal Board of Directors of the Dawson Student Union. Its role is to supervise the management and administer the business and affairs of the DSU. It offers opinions and advice to the Executive Officers on issues that concern students. The Student Council is composed of 20 voting representatives from the four Academic Sectors, as well as the DSU President, VP Finance, VP Academic Affairs & Advocacy, and VP Operations & Services. The Student Council also includes 6 ex officio non-voting members: 4 Executive Officers, the Chair, and the Administrative Director who is the Corporate Secretary of the Board. The Student Council may appoint 2 non-voting Advisors who are not DSU Members. The Student Councillors and Executive Officers are elected every Winter semester by the DSU Members (Dawson College students) to serve a one-year term that typically runs from 1 June following their election to 31 May of the next year.     Fall 2020 General Assembly The Fall General Assembly is an important event for the Dawson Student Union. It is at this Assembly that the budget for the year is ratified. The General Assembly will be taking place on Zoom on November 4th, 2020 at 6 p.m. This year's assembly will be happening online due to Covid-19 restrictions for in-person activities. To access the GA, all you need to do is click on this link and login to your Dawson College email address on Zoom. The General Assembly shall be chaired by officers selected by the sub-committee tasked with the organization of the event. Both officers were selected for their experience and knowledge in accomplishing their respective tasks. The chair was also selected among non-student candidates in order to avoid bias. For any technical problems encountered during the GA, please contact us via social media or fill out a contact form below and we will try our best to assist you. The official agenda, as well as all matters of business to be discussed at this assembly, will be available below. Miara Solivio (Chair) is a former Dawson Liberal Arts student that now studies at McGill working on her Bachelor of Arts. During her time at Dawson, she was a prominent member of DCMUN and gained a great deal of insight into how meeting governance works. Abril Meza (Secretary) is a current General Social Science student at Dawson College. She has a great deal of experience doing secretarial and administrative work which she gained during her time as an office manager.
